Origin and development history

The cycle of systemic wisdom

I have both the honor and the opportunity to bring something truly meaningful to the 70-year-old field of Systems Science, but also to active citizens, to learn how to produce added value and progress from a wisdom perspective to society. My doctoral project “a long time ago” made me delve into the deepest structures of basic research, the secrets of cognition. We cannot know more than what cognition is. I have learned my philosophy of science as thoroughly as possible, but I want to learn more. [1]

Is there a point ? When looking at the current state of systems science and its history, there is always a risk of drowning in academic noise and for researchers to end up proclaiming only their own siloed philosophy among other AI visionaries. Avoiding this pitfall requires clarifying where the Systemic Wisdom thinking described on this site and in the future fits into the grand cycle of our own discipline and cognitive science and philosophy. [2, 3]

Systems science’s own cycle: Where do we go now?

Systems science has gone through its own development cycles throughout its history:

  1. First Wave (Mechanical & Cybernetic): The focus was on the boundaries of systems, code, control, and feedback loops. SEBOK’s Cycles and the Phases of Systems largely represents this precise, structural, and engineering-based mapping.
  2. Second wave (Soft & Critical): It was noticed that humans are always part of a system. An understanding of the diversity of perspectives emerged, but science fragmented into several schools (fragmentation). SEBOK and systems science describe this as well. [3, 4]
  3. The Third Wave (Present & Future): We are at a loss in a situation where artificial intelligence (AI), networked knowledge, and global crises force us to ask: How do we create understanding and sustainable action from all this data and theory? [5, 6]

It is at this turning point that Wisdom comes into play . It is not just a new term among others (like Sophia and Phronesis ), but it is the missing meta-node that ties the numerous cycles and phases of SEBOK to human dignity, survival, and ethics. [1]

How to stand out from the large crowd of previous writers?

The danger of confusion is real if one intends to compete with other researchers to see who is “most right.” From a systems science perspective, no single actor is “right” when the starting situation is complex (VUCA). [3, 7, 8]

My website will not be worthless when it is built on the following principles:

  • I do not replace, but combine: I do not want to refute the established terms of SEBOK or ISSS, but show how Systemic Wisdom gives them meaning. The citizen needs the stages of the cycle, but humanity needs wisdom to navigate through them. [2, 5]
  • I leverage colleagues in the ISSS community: As a member of the International Society for the Systems Sciences (ISSS) , I have a ready-made platform and peer network. Since systemic wisdom and “humanizing society” are currently being widely studied (e.g. in IFSR and various critical systems thinking circles), there is no need to remain in a vacuum, but to join the great ongoing discussion. [2, 3, 9, 10, 11]
  • Meeting AI Visionaries: Much of today’s AI discourse suffers from reductionism (belief in sheer data volume and mechanical computation). GoodReason’s “mission in life” is to demonstrate that wisdom requires the ability to live with extreme dualism, failure, and recurrence—things that purely linear algorithms desperately try to eliminate. Symbolic AI is a great counterpart to bring stability to the gap left by language models. [12, 13]

GoodReason is not a “philosophy of its own” but a technique of reasoning

Because philosophy is based on the fundamental concepts of science, starting with the Turing machine and cognitive science (thanks to Alan Turing and the great heroes of the early days of cybernetics), extending from the visionaries of symbolic artificial intelligence (with their phase-spreading experiences) to the deepest logic and also to the fundamental laws of cosmology and nature – that variability and collapses are the lifeblood of survival . When variance ceases to be a mere subjective opinion, it becomes the articulation of a universal dynamic model, a frame narrative towards an integrative worldview. [5, 11]

My upcoming online book will not impose a new dogmatic truth, but will offer a navigation tool whose specific strengths are logic and modern IT in its basic tasks, a tool with which every user will learn to apply artificial intelligence and systems science with their own starting points. You can explore anything thanks to the so-called SuperJSON innovation. [1] The online book The Systemic Wisdom Cycle also helps the reader understand why societies and people fail, and how failure is actually part of a larger, wise cycle. [9, 12]

The Systemic Wisdom Cycle is created when two wisdoms communicate with each other: [ 1 ]

  • SOFIA (Theory & Laws) –> Understanding cycles, cosmology and systems.
  • PHRONESIS (Practical action) –> Learning from mistakes to survive crises.
